Salisbury Street Enhancements

Wanting to create a pleasant environment for the community led the City of St. Louis to embark on the Salisbury Street Enhancement project. The goal was to provide safer corridors for pedestrians and beautify the streetscape, in turn hoping to retain current businesses and encourage future development in this historic area.
This multiphase project improves sidewalks and enhances aesthetics. Phase I covers four blocks of Salisbury Street, stretching from Natural Bridge Road to North Florissant Avenue. Phase II continues from North Florissant Avenue and extends six blocks to Eleventh Street.
Oates Associates was selected to address deteriorating streetscape conditions, such as cracked and damaged sidewalks, crumbled curbs, and failing retaining walls. Improvements consisted of new ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps, removing and rebuilding curbs and installing new lighting. Oates also designed the repairs for a stone retaining wall and decorative stone pillars. Landscaped parkways were created and greenery was added to enhance the area. To create a harmonious environment, new fixtures and vegetation match existing design themes in the community.
