Parking Lot A Reconstruction & Roundabout
Edwardsville, Illinois
- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
- $1,400,000
The goals for the reconstruction of Parking Lot A were to improve pedestrian access and traffic circulation and complete the project in time for the fall semester. The project began by reviewing pedestrian counts and patterns, trail crossing options, and three-way and four-way T-intersection options. Improvements considered costs, space utilization, entry traffic operations, internal traffic flow, pedestrian conflicts, aesthetics, surrounding construction and future building expansions.
The parking lot was designed to include 763 spaces with metered, motorcycle, ADA and an electric vehicle charging space. The entrance was reconfigured to a roundabout to improve traffic flow. Oates coordinated with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Department of Resources, and provided a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) submittal. Full-depth pavement reclamation was utilized with a cement modified subgrade.
