I-80 Structures over Hennepin Canal

Built in 1963, the dual structures carrying I-80 over the Hennepin Canal exhibited deterioration. Oates Associates completed engineering services for the preparation of contract plans, special provisions and estimates for the removal and replacement of the two structures. The structures were replaced with three span, steel, multi-beam bridges.  The plans included stage construction plans with the construction of median crossovers.  The existing approach slabs were built on a “land bridge” that needed to be stabilized with the use of a grouting specification developed by Oates.
