Curb Ramp Upgrades

University City is a predominantly residential community with vibrant specialty shops, restaurants and venues within the city. Replacing damaged sidewalks and upgrading ramps to meet ADA standards became a priority for the city to provide safe and accessible routes for pedestrians.

Oates Associates completed engineering design services for 405 curb ramp upgrades to meet ADA standards throughout University City. Work also included evaluating 4.5 miles of sidewalks for ADA compliance and spot upgrades.  Seventy-four of the curb ramps were on a federally funded project for which Oates provided design and construction observation services.  The remaining curb ramps were completed under on an as-needed basis.  As the City determined which curb ramps they wanted upgraded, Oates analyzed conditions and designed the needed repairs within the desired time frame to meet current ADA standards.
