Cleveland Avenue Bridge over Richland Creek
Belleville, Illinois
Client
- City of Belleville, Illinois
Construction Cost
- $1,670,000
Originally constructed in 1914, Cleveland Avenue over Richland Creek showed signs of advanced deterioration, including spalling and major section loss. Alternatives were reviewed and a complete replacement was determined to be the best option, as it addressed all of the structural and hydraulic concerns.
The bridge was replaced with a single span steel structure on closed abutments. An adjacent system of retaining walls supports the approach roadway. The bridge accommodates two travel lanes and sidewalks. The project required incorporation of existing utilities and relocation of the sanitary sewer.
Oates Associates provided topographic and hydraulic survey, and structural design services.
