Oates Associates conducted a structural assessment of the cable barrier guardrail system in the Clayton Avenue parking garage after a vehicle collided with the barrier system. The assessment focused on the cables and anchorage members to determine the condition and document any visible signs of deterioration to the cable barrier system due to the vehicle’s impact. Our findings indicated that the cables exhibited visual damage to the protective coating and a small amount of relaxation due to the collision. The cables’ anchorage members and support posts appeared to be good condition with no visual signs of damage. It was recommended that the damaged zinc coatings be repaired with a cold galvanizing compound to prevent corrosion of the cables in the future and that the relaxed cables be re-tensioned with the original 1400 pounds.
