KANKAKEE BYPASS FEASIBILITY STUDY
CONSTRUCTION COST: $45m to $65m
COMPLETION DATE: 1992 (study)
CLIENT: ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Oates Associates was hired to study the feasibility of a 12.5 mile bypass around the west side of Kankakee, Illinois from I-57 north of Bourbonnais to I-57 south of Kankakee. The project involved writing a feasibility study of a bypass around the west side of Kankakee. This report included traffic studies, evaluation of alternative alignments, cost estimates, cost vs. benefit studies, and report preparation.

Three main alternative alignments were studied, all of which involved a river crossing over the Kankakee River. Environmental impacts of each alignment were studied for wetlands, farmland, park land and noise.
