LEVEE AND WELL REHABILITATION MERMET LAKE CONSERVATION AREA
CONSTRUCTION COST: $3,100,000
COMPLETION DATE: 2002
CLIENT: ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Oates Associates was hired to address problems in this 2,500 acre wildlife area including a failing levee, poor car and boat access to lakes and wildlife management areas and poor traffic circulation within the area. We provided survey, design and construction services for the rehabilitation and widening of a 7,500 ft. long levee, with a widened levee road - including cross road culverts with sluice gates. Reconstruction and widening of 2 miles of park road improved overall traffic circulation by hunters and boaters. This work required 15 acres of wetland mitigation.

The project also involved rehabilitation of six 100 ft. deep ground water wells, used for maintaining proper lake levels for wildlife management.
