The OTHS Transition House is a facility designed to accommodate special needs students ages 18 to 22 who are still officially in High School, but the school environment no longer meets their needs. The Transition House provides a place for the students to learn life skills such as cooking, cleaning, gardening, craft assembly, as well as vocational skills. The students are at the house during the normal school day. However, some arrive in the morning, are transported to a local job and then finish their day at the house.
The project entails renovating an existing 1,500 square foot house that is located across the street from O’Fallon Township High School. The renovation will make the house functional for this program, fully accessible and code compliant for the educational occupancy. Oates Associates is providing architectural, civil and structural engineering, and construction administration services.
