The SIUe School of Pharmacy is the only pharmacy program in southern Illinois. When the Pharmacy Building initially opened, 80 students were enrolled in the program. Within four years of the school’s opening, enrollment tripled, pushing SIUe to expand their facilities. Furthermore, an accreditation group identified that the School of Pharmacy needed more space for students.
Oates Associates provided civil and structural engineering services for the 3,000 square foot addition to the existing Pharmacy Building to provide for a student lounge. The building consists of steel framing. The new structure is adjacent to the existing structure and is separated by an isolation joint, allowing the new building to act independently of the existing structure.
