History

Oates Associates, Inc. is a civil and structural engineering firm offering services from concept through construction services. We have operated in the Midwest since the mid-1960's with an office in the St. Louis Metro East area since 1980. In 2006 we opened an office in Downtown St. Louis.

Experience

Oates Associates has provided services for a variety of projects throughout the region. Major transportation projects include design of a section of I-70 as part of the new Mississippi River Bridge project, the extension of the St. Louis MetroLink into St. Clair County; a transportation plan for Madison County, Illinois; an alternatives analysis for the St. Clair County light rail extension; a feasibility study for improved access to Calhoun County; aesthetic planning for all of I-255 and design of six miles of the interstate and a major interchange with I-270; planning studies for the I-55/70/ US 40 interchange and for bypass highways around Columbia and Kankakee; and the reconstruction of a major toll highway and toll plaza in Chicago. Oates Associates is prequalified to perform services for the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Capital Development Board.

On the local level, we have designed roads and streets for both St. Clair and Madison Counties, several township road districts and the communities of Belleville, Collinsville, Columbia, Alton, East Alton, Edwardsville, Fairview Heights, Highland and O'Fallon. Funding for these projects has come from a variety of sources - from municipal budgets, to Motor Fuels Tax, to the Federal Aid Urban program. Varied funding sources require familiarity with the documentation requirements and procedures of each of the funding agencies.

Site engineering services have been provided for a number of the major public and private building projects in the Metro East region. Public projects include the Illinois Regional Headquarters Complex, the Collinsville Convention Center, Cahokia Mounds Museum and Interpretive Center, SIUE Olympic Festival Track & Field Stadium and Edwardsville High School. Private developments include Eastport Plaza and ABC Commercial Park in Collinsville, Richland Office Park and Belle-Valley Industrial Park in Belleville, Mark Twain Plaza and a portion of the Gateway Commerce Center in Edwardsville.

Recreation projects are a significant part of our practice. We have provided site design services for roads, parking, playgrounds, campgrounds and hiking trails in several state parks throughout Southern Illinois. In addition, we have designed over 50 miles of bike trail for the Madison County Transit District.

Our structural staff, has designed over 45 bridges in the last 20 years, from small stream crossings to major interstate interchange structures and from rehabilitations and replacements to new structures. Hydraulic design for new bridges and replacements is performed in-house by experienced hydraulic engineers. In addition to bridge design, we have provided structural design for many of the major Metro-East building projects listed above.
